Fixed braces are the most common as they are
the best at controlling the positions of all the
teeth at once. We make your brace by gluing a bracket
(a small metal square) onto each of the teeth.
These are joined together by a wire. The wires
are held on to the squares with little elastic
bands (modules) which are available in a colour
of your choice. Fixed braces are just that, they
cannot be taken in and out of your mouth.
We will advise you on how to take care of your
braces after they have been fitted and provide
you with a detailed instruction leaflet to take
home.
After your braces have been fitted
and your teeth begin to move, your mouth may feel a little bit tender and you may get ulcers
where the brackets might
be rubbing but these are very short lived problems
and things will quickly
settle down. There are remedies that will help.

After the braces have been fitted,
we will need to see you every 6 weeks for a short
10 minute appointment to have them adjusted.
On these visits, we may just
replace the elastics (modules) and you will be
able to change your colours if you want. We may
replace the wires as well. After each adjustment,
your teeth may feel a little tender again but only
for a brief time.
When your teeth are straight,
we will remove your brace, simply by taking off
each bracket and polishing each tooth before
fitting your retainer. |
